The confirmation from WWE comes several days after a former WWE SmackDown vs. Raw game writer shared rumors that the game had been canceled. To be clear, WWE did not say whether or not the game was canceled or if it even existed in the first place. Still, it’s likely the rumor’s spread that forced WWE to offer public comment about WWE 2K21.

Rumors persist that 2K is still planning to publish a different WWE wrestling game in 2020. That game would not be developed by WWE 2K20 developer Visual Concepts, however. Fan speculation points to everything from a WWE All Stars 2 to a console port of one of WWE’s various popular gacha mobile games.
Exactly why there will be no WWE 2K21 is anyone’s guess, but one thing that’s certain is that fans will point to WWE 2K20. WWE 2K20 launched with an incredible amount of problems, leading to a tidal wave of criticism, review bombs, and hyperbolic promises to never buy a WWE game again. WWE 2K21 may have ceased to be off the back of that negativity. But when it comes to WWE, really anything is possible. The WWE may have simply through it was more profitable not to make WWE 2K21.
