You’ll never guess what it was.
In case you didn’t know..
Big E signed with the WWE’s FCW development brand back in 2009. A multiple-time Tag Team Champion, as well as a former NXT and Intercontinental Champion, Big E has become a huge success, especially since The New Day faction formed back in 2014, with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston his partners in the group.
The New Day are a merchandise machine and they held the Tag Team Titles longer than anyone else in history with their 2015-16 reign, and they are very popular with fans.
The heart of the matter
Always one to use Twitter to humor the WWE Universe, today, Big E told of the first idea he came up with for a character in WWE ‘almost 9 years ago.’
He wanted to do a postal worker’s gimmick and to be called ‘Mel Mann’ (as in a mailman).
But, WWE obviously rebuked Big E’s comedic suggestion.
Here is the tweet below:
What’s next?
The New Day are set to take on The Bludgeon Brothers and The Usos in a triple threat match for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans on 8 April, which is less than two weeks away.
Big E will be there. ‘Mel Mann’ won’t be, sadly.
Author’s take
Although that did not come to fruition for Big E, at least ‘postal worker’ all gave us a good laugh years later, right? Imagine what a postal worker’s finisher would have been called.Delivery Stomp, Pillar to Post and Through the Letterbox are all good names in my opinion. What do you guys think?
Let’s start a #WewantMelMann Twitter campaign. Ok, maybe I’m getting a bit carried away.
