In case you didn’t know…
Mojo Rawley played in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals in 2009 and 2010. After he recovered from an injury while playing for the Cardinals, Mojo signed a deal to join NXT in 2012 and would make his television debut in a battle royal on May 29, 2013.
The heart of the matter
ABC 15 spoke with Mojo about his friendship with Gronk, whom he has known since high school. Mojo mentioned that they became good friends before either of them achieved any level of success and that friendship has been maintained throughout the years.
Mojo then revealed how he got his foot in the door with the WWE. Gronk’s father actually contacted Mike Rotunda, who was known as I.R.S. and is also the father of Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas. Mojo said that Gronk’s family knew how big of a fan he was of the WWE so they helped him in getting a chance.
Ever since the Super Bowl earlier this month, there has been discussion whether or not Gronk is going to retire and possibly pursue a WWE career. Mojo would have this to say about Gronk potentially joining the WWE someday:
What’s next?
Next up for Mojo’s SmackDown Live brand is the WWE Fastlane pay per view on March 11th from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. In the main event, AJ Styles will defend his WWE Championship in a Fatal-5-Way match against Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens.
Author’s take
That was definitely a cool story of how Mojo got his foot in the door to the WWE. You can tell from WrestleMania last year that there is a strong bond between Mojo and Gronk. I hope that someday Gronk does what Ronda Rousey did and signs a contract with the WWE.
